Atlantic Crossings - Truly an experience of a lifetime

From 2009 our Greek flagged Bavaria 46s have been sailing from Greece, through Sardinia, then Gibraltar to the Canaries. The yachts will then join over 200 other yachts on ARC Atlantic Rally for Cruisers in late November to sail across the Atlantic to St Lucia. In May they return to Greece via the Azores and Gibraltar!

Annually we have two Atlantic crossing trips:-

November: Canaries to Caribbean - ARC Atlantic Crossing

May: Caribbean to Gibraltar - Atlantic Crossing

The yachts are specially coded to Ocean category A3 and so are very well equipped, with an abundance of safety equipment.

We are taking a break from the Atlantic trips for 2011/12 and will be back to complete them again for the October 2012 trip with new yachts. Please still email your interest and we can let you know of other similar trips we have running or yachts who are still looking for crew.

The experience of a lifetime sail The Atlantic !!

Join us for 2012 Atlantic Sailing!

You will be expected to take part in all aspects of running the yacht with opportunities to learn, ask questions, while building confidence and knowledge. With a limited number of crew on board, including also a first mate and experienced skipper you will be be able to study atlantic weather patterns, downwind sailing techniques, safety equipment and offshore sailing equipment, using a sextant and much much more.

We try to ensure you have ample time for the adventure but we suggest that return flights if possible are left open until we are confident of the weather patterns.

When on board basic food and soft drinks are supplied but as crew you are expected to take part in provisioning and the preparation of meals. You will be responsible for your own food and drinks when ashore. We may also be lucky and providing someone on board is happy to clean fish you may have fresh dorado or tuna as a supplement to our ships stores.

Included:

All boat expenses - yacht fuel, sleeping bag liner, mooring fees, basic provisions, snacks and meals on board, water. All yachts are fitted with more than the necessary safety gear.

Excluded

Flights and airport transfers, any additional food or drink requirements will be split between the crew. Food when in harbour is not provided.

These trips are outside our operating area for our RYA sailing school.

Antigua to The Azores - 2200 miles

We depart Antigua (Caribbean) and head north, until we find some westerly winds to blow us across to the Azores. Our destination is Horta in the Island of Faial. This leg is ideal as a qualifying leg for those wishing to do their Ocean Yachtmaster.

This is real Ocean sailing reading the weather, and sailing the yacht to windward; hoping the wind stays with us and hoping we're not becalmed.

Horta is mid Atlantic you are made welcome when you arrive and can even paint your name on the harbour wall after enjoying a well earned beer in Peters Cafe.

Travel to Horta is simple with regular flights.

Las Palmas to St Lucia - ARC Atlantic crossing

This is an exciting journey and for many 'a once in a lifetime' experience, crossing the Atlantic Ocean. We join the ARC in Las Palmas and after a hectic weeks preparation and partying, we wave goodbye to land for two weeks or so, and sail downwind across the Atlantic.

Everyone from novice to experienced sea dog will be involved in the watch system, and take part in the day to day running of the yacht. This is a fantastic opportunity to add many miles to your log book as you sail towards the sun.

All guests are invited to join us for the week before departure and help with provisioning and preparation of the yacht. All food and drinks are provided on board for the crossing and we crew numbers are limited to allow you to cruise and race accross in comfort with maximum opportunity for involvement and learning.
