Day Skipper Courses

Sail Ionian is an RYA training centre.  Sail Ionian offers RYA day skipper courses for all levels of experience. We specialise in the Competent Crew and Non Tidal Day Skipper Sailing courses for all abilities and ages.

RYA (Royal Yachting Association) was founded in November 1875. The RYA is a UK membership organisation for recreational boat owners and crew.

Facts about our day skipper courses.

• Our RYA day skipper courses are personalised to meet the needs and expectations of you and your crew, we cover the RYA syllabus, and often the courses a run with a group of friends of family who then continue to charter the yacht for a further period.
• Our RYA day skipper courses are limited to a maximum of four people per course which allows for individual attention to each person on board.
• Our approach to day skipper and competent crew courses is professional we follow the RYA course content, but still make your training fun and enjoyable. We want everyone of feel comfortable and free to learn, practice and build confidence.
• RYA day skipper courses and competent crew courses are run on an appropriately sized yacht, normally one of our Bavaria yachts, which no more than 4 seasons old.
• RYA day skipper courses teach you all the skills needed to safely skipper a yacht in familiar non-tidal waters by day.

Some of the things you will learn in our RYA day skipper courses are:

• Boat handling in non-tidal waters
• Basic pilotage
• Anchoring and stern mooring
• Seamanship and navigation
• Safety and much more.

The day skipper course duration is 5 days, including at least one night passage.

Whilst you can expect a reasonably intense course we make sure there is time for swimming stops and you will visit a different Ionian Island harbour each night.

Sail Ionian is a small, friendly, family owned and run yacht charter company based on the island of Lefkas in Greece, ideally located for sailing holidays exploring the Southern and Northern Ionian.

We specialise in Bareboat Yacht Charter, Assisted Sailing and RYA Sailing Courses. For the less experienced sailors, we are pleased to skipper your yacht for part or all of your sailing holiday whilst you gain confidence.

Our aim is to provide the highest standard of sailing holiday possible to all of our clients, both new and returning. This is achieved by maintaining constant high levels of yacht maintenance, cleaning and staff training. All our charter yachts have completed no more than four seasons of charter, with NEW yachts being added each year. All yachts from 36 foot upwards are teak decked and fully equiped. In the unlikely event of you needing support, backup is provided by a large rib which can reach anywhere in the Southern Ionion in a short space of time.
