Caribbean Yacht Charter: Sail around the Grenadines
![]() |
Sail the Grenadines! Union island is located within very close proximity to a range of islands in the Grenadines and is often your first port of call to check in when sailing from Grenada. The sail is usually a 5-6 hour beat and a great way forget work and to start the holiday! If you prefer you can start your yacht charter from any of the Grenadine Islands. If you arrive by air into Union Island, 5 minutes after leaving the airport you will be standing on a white sandy beach, rum punch in hand, with your yacht moored on a quay ready to go sailing! The flights are more expensive to sail direct but for those wanting to potter the islands you may prefer to fly via Barbados or Grenada straight to Union Island and pick up your yacht. Union Island Anchorages Spend the evening anchored off Union Island or on the quayside pontoon, and take the dinghy to Janti's Happy Island to watch the sunset. A host of excellent restaurants are located within a short walk of your yacht and provisioning is made easy by local supermarkets and the fruit and vegetable market in the square. Chatham Bay on the western coast is a large protected anchorage where locals arrange beach barbeques in a fabulous setting underneath the palms. Frigate Island is a perfect stop for lunch or a very quiet evening. |

Tobago Cays Part of which was a film set for the Pirates of the Caribbean, Tobago Cays is considered the most scenic anchorage in the Grenadines and by some the whole Caribbean. This national marine park has crystal clear shallow water, an abundance of fish and florishing corals, and is a great location for snorkelling and turtle spotting. Local venders sell fresh fish and lobster which can be barbequed for you on request on the beach, otherwise bring your own provisions and cook on board. An ideal place to anchor, snorkel around the reefs and rewind for a couple of days. Dive boats can pick you up from your yacht and if you have run out of supplies they will bring more for you also! |
Mayreaux (Roughly 1 hr sail from Canoan, Union and the Quays) Salt Whistle Bay and Sailine Bay are both shaded by palms and covered in white sand providing an excellent evening or lunchtime stopover. Both are our favourites anchorages. Both anchorages again provide excellent snorkelling and a short walk into town enables you a chance to really get to know the island and see an amazing view of Tobago Quays. |
