IONIAN SAILING CLIENT COMMENTS and REVIEWS
What a fabulous holiday we have had with Sail Ionion.
We were two families with teenage boys and had two yachts Zicatela and Ella. My sister and I were the skippers and having only obtained our day skipper in April this year we felt that we weren't experienced enough to go it completely alone yet we didn't want to be tied into a traditional flotilla holiday either. Sail Ionian offer the complete package with their informal flotilla. They told us where they would be each night and it was up to us if we wanted to join them. If they knew we were joining them they made sure we were able to moor even in the busiest of places (we had a mix of busy and quiet evenings). They recommended places to eat and pre booked tables for us if necessary.
The yachts were clean and well maintained and we were given a full briefing before we set sail on the day of our arrival. We took advantage of the stern to mooring and long lining lessons the following day and then set off. If you have kids then the kayaks and long boards are a great idea. We didn't really have much wind but did manage some slow sailing. More wind would have been good but having read previous reviews this wasn't a surprise at this time of year and didn't spoil our holiday whatsoever.
The back up we had was brilliant and helped to make our holiday what it was. Nothing was too much trouble, help was always there when needed but nowhere in sight when not needed. Thank you to all the guys on Rodney for all your help. They were still smiling even late at night when the wind finally really whipped up and our anchor needed resetting. I now know what to do with a kedge anchor! This was our first visit to Greece and definitely not our last. Beautiful scenery and the sea warm and clear. No sand, just pebbles so bring beach shoes if swimming ashore. We were allowed to stay out for the last night and set sail early on Sunday morning watching the sun come up.I learnt so much and can't wait to come back.
From start to finish, the holiday was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed it. There were 6 of us - 2 families - on a Bavaria 36, which is a great vessel with ample room, even though there were no fans in the cabins - which we would have dearly loved with the amazing heat in the evenings and night. Everything before the holiday, during it and after it, was very professionally handled by Neil and Di and their kids - the family atmosphere pervaded the whole experience - very nice people with terrific support crew - from cleaners through technical and sailing staff to office staff. We would definitely go again. The only problem - apart from the lack of cabin fans - was very little wind in the first week, but it picked up nicely in the second week - thank you. Greece is still one of our favourite destinations, made even better by a hassle free holiday where we could concentrate on sailing and having fun - eating and drinking in the wonderful tavernas and swimming in the beautiful sea. Thank you Sail Ionian.
This was the first time we tried a floatilla holiday and turned out to be the perfect start. Neil and Di are a professional outfit that gave me a relaxed feel with the confidence that if help was needed it was there.
This was our second yacht charter with Sail Ionian and we enjoyed it as much as the first. The Bavaria 37 (Blue Iris) was perfect for three of us with excellent layout and space. It was presented beautifully with all the attention to detail which the Sail Ionian team provide and which is so appreciated.
This is a yacht charter company which is family run and well organised offering a personal service to its clients at all stages of booking and sailing. From personal experience, we feel Sail Ionian is head and shoulders above any comparable yacht charter companies operating in the Ionian area in terms of yacht quality and value for money. Highly recommended!
Just returned from a fabulous week sailing in the Ionian. There were 8 of us 4 adults and 4 teenage boys, with two Yachts Zicatela and Ella.
This was our first charter as I and the other skipper had only completed our 'Day Skipper' qualification in the spring so we were a little nervous. Zicatela was our home for the week and she was spotlessly clean on arrival with a generous welcome pack. Neil and Di were on hand to welcome us and introduce us to our skipper for the day. The paper work was completed quickly and then we were on our way. Stern to mooring and long lining clinics were invaluable for us first timers and then we were left to our own devices. We were part of the 'informal flotilla' which I believe was a new venture for the company, and was superbly well run. The boys in the orange RIB were always on hand when they were needed, mostly when mooring in very busy harbours (they were great at trying to hold spaces for us and ensuring both parties were moored together) but were nowhere to be seen when they were not needed, striking just the right balance. At the end of the holiday we were allowed to stay out for the extra night giving us 8 days sailing, this meant an early start in the morning, but was a fantastic end to a perfect holiday. From booking right through to being seen onto the coach at the end of the holiday, we felt there was always someone there to look after us if and when we needed it.We would like to say a big thankyou to RODNEY our friends in the orange RIB, always cheerful, always helpful with an attitude of 'nothing was too much trouble.' Your staff are a credit to your company.
We had a fantastic holiday and would very much like to return, we would definitely use Sail Ionian again and would have no hesitation in recommending them to others.
The only downside to the whole holiday was the lack of wind all week, so if you could sort that out for us next time that would be great!
Comfortable boat and well equipped. Everything working properly, very kind and attentive staff. Lovely welcome pack

We booked a private RYA course with Sail Ionian, two Day Skipper's and a Competent Crew. The booking experience was perfect. The website has plenty of information and emails were replied to usually within a couple of hours, sometimes even quicker! Everything run very smoothly from arriving in Preveza, bus transportation, getting settled on the boat (Zicatela) and meeting our instructor. The tuition given by our instructor was top class. We thoroughly enjoyed having Scott onboard for the week. He planned an amazing loop around the Ionian for us where we found some incredible secluded anchorages. The highlight of the week had to be the night passage which is part of the Day Skipper course. We spent 4 hours navigating a challenging course and watching shooting stars - amazing. We visited some great little towns during the week, with Fiskardo and Sivota being the favourites.
As we passed our Day Skipper courses we had the opportunity to take the boat for a day by ourselves to put our newly acquired skills to the test. Surprisingly we we stayed very calm and had a very relaxed day, even managing to successfully long-line in Abelike for lunch, which showed us just how much we had learnt and how good Scott's teaching was!
I would highly recommend booking a holiday with Sail Ionian, for RYA courses or boat chartering. We will definitely be back in the future!
Thank you Sail Ionian for a fantastic holiday/experience, and special thanks to Scott for making the week unforgettable.
Use Sail Ionian if you want a great sailing holiday on a great boat with all the little helpful extras already thought about and provided. A very well run family company that stands head and shoulders above the other flotilla and charter companies we saw in the area. New boats, good price and lots of return customers.
My wife and son wanted to take a RYA Day Skipper sailing course but with conditions!
1. Had to be a new boat
2. Had to be a big boat
3. Didn't want to cook aboard so need good ports/restaurants
4. Chance to stay in pretty bays away from busy harbours some nights to relax and get away from it all.
We looked at Croatia and Gibraltar before settling on Sail Ionian in Greece.
Website looked great and had full information on everything we wanted to know. We then chatted online with Simone who was extremely helpful and we were booked in. Despite the background noise about Greece, they advised us all was OK - And they were correct. We had no issues with getting money, using credit cards, getting food etc... Papers and TV stories were way off the mark.Unlike many of the charter/sailing schools in the area, Sail Ionian uses new boats which are immaculately clean and well maintained. In the end we settled for a new Bavaria 41'. Big for a sailing course but ticked all the conditions for my family!Steve, our RYA instructor, was fantastic and deserves full credit for teaching in an organised calm way whilst ensuring we got two successful passes for the Day Skipper course. He also knew all the best places to eat/visit.
Sailing around the islands and looking at the other yachts, we were extremely happy to have chosen Sail Ionian. We will definitely use them again as they provide a great service, have great yachts and employ a team that is helpful, professional and smiling! They are streets ahead of the competition.
First time with sail Ionian. Assisted skipper in the form of a skipper Sunday evening and all day Monday - very helpful. Boat fantastic. Good value for money. Excellent company - helped with transfers, boarding passes etc etc.
