Sail Ionian is a family run Sea School offering expert tuition for all levels of experience. Our training is taught by very experienced, professional and friendly instructors on new, well maintained and fully equipped yachts. We offer the full range tuition options both in Greece and the Caribbean for those new to sailing to more experienced sailors looking to further enhance their skills and knowledge on the water.

If you and your crew would like to be qualified, and are mixed abilities, we are happy to teach different abilities on the same yacht. Our training is personalised to meet the needs and expectations of you and your crew. We ensure a relaxed and informal approach from our instructors and time to explore the islands, enjoy the snorkelling and the sailing area.

Start Yachting (2 Days)

Start Yachting

A short introduction to yacht sailing for those who have never sailed before.

This course aims to introduce many aspects of sailing and you will learn some of the skills required to be useful crew on a yacht anywhere in the world. Skills includes knots and rope handling, sailing terms, points of sail, safety and much much more. It is a fun 2 days.

Take a break from your villa/hotel in Grenada and learn to sail for 2 days and receive a qualification at the end. Or take a yacht for 7-10 days and after the two day course around Grenada enjoy your holiday sailing around the rest of the islands in the Grenadines!

RYA Competent Crew (5 Days)

Competent Crew

 

A great experience builder and the perfect introduction to sailing!

You will learn all the skills required to be a useful crew member aboard a yacht anywhere in the world. This includes knots and rope handling, sailing terms, points of sail, mooring techniques, safety and much much more. We will also incorporate some extras into your training including mooring and navigating the boat! This all means you will come away from a fantastic and informative sailing holiday in beautiful surroundings with a wealth of knowledge that will serve as a solid foundation for any further sailing you chose to do.

With 7 days on the yacht you can really push yourselves to learn as much as possible. The 7 days also includes longer passages over 6 hours, night sailing and much more.

Assumed knowledge: None or dinghy sailors.

What is the Price and what is included?

Following courses: Day Skipper Theory and Day Skipper Practical.

RYA Day Skipper (7 Days)

RYA Grenada

This course teaches you the skills needed to safely skipper a yacht in familiar waters by day.

You will be taught boat handling, stronger wind sailing, pilotage, seamanship and navigation, safety and much more. The course duration is 5 days, including at least one night passage of 4+ hours and the other days will be spent refreshing skills or relaxing - whatever you choose!

Whilst it is a reasonably intense course, there is still time to experience the true Caribbean. Some nights will be spend at anchor, others on mooring buoys, others in marinas - all to give you the maximum learning options.

Min Age: 16 years. We suggest that you have completed at least 5 days sea time including 100 miles and 4 night hours prior to taking the course. This is commonly achieved in the form of a Competent Crew course. It is also essential to have knowledge of the day skipper theory before taking the practical course.

Assumed knowledge: Basic navigation and sailing ability.

Coastal Skipper (5 - 7 Days)

Coastal Skipper

The Coastal Skipper course teaches the skills and techniques required to safely skipper a yacht on a coastal passage by day or night. The Grenadines is an ideal location for this course with tides, plenty of reefs, winds over 20 knots each day and great night sails - you will be amazed how much you can learn! The 5 days provides a great opportunity to sail further afield and meet more challenging conditions and gain more experience in sail and power handling, passage planning and emergency situations. Also available is the Yachtmaster Coastal Preparation and Exam.

Min Age: 17 years. Pre Course Experience: Coastal/Yachtmaster Theory, previous skippering experience, 300 miles and 8 night hours.
