Sail Ionian is an RYA training centre offering expert tuition for all levels of experience. Our Sea School provides expert, informal, relaxed, friendly, and safe instruction in a safe and fun sailing environment. We specialise in the Competent Crew Course in Greece for all abilities and ages and believe our sailing area is one of the best for learning and building confidence with constant wind every day, flat seas, lots of harbours within a short sailing distance, space to practice and no tides. Our courses are intensive, fun and very thorough.
We welcome familes, couples, groups of friends and individuals and we encourage everyone on board to have a go. If you and your crew would like to be qualified, and are mixed abilities, we are happy to teach different sailing courses on the same yacht.
Our courses are personalised to meet the needs and expectations of you and your crew. With a maximum of four per course, this gives time for individual tuition and attention to all on board. Even after a competent crew course we allow our students to practice without the instructor - we believe you will have learnt enough to sail yourselves safely in our area (with support nearby if needed). All RYA sailing courses are on one of our Bavaria yachts (no more than 5 seasons old).

Competent Crew
A perfect introduction to sailing!
This is the starting point. You will learn all the skills required to be a useful crew member aboard a yacht anywhere in the world. This includes knots and rope handling, saiiling terms, steering at sea, putting up sails, points of sail, mooring techniques, safety, what to do if there is a man overboard and much much more. We also hope to be able to incorporate some extras into your training which includes navigation and mooring the boat! This all means you will come away from a fantastic sailing holiday in beautiful surroundings with a wealth of knowledge that will serve as a solid foundation for any further sailing you chose to do.
The Competent Crew course is designed to introduce you to sailing in a fun environment. It will be a relaxed but very informative course. You will learn lots about sailing but you will also learn how to live on a yacht, how to cook at sea and how to understand a whole new language of sailing terms!
Minimum age for this course is 8 years. Children are welcomed and encouraged. Our instructors aim to make learning fun for all ages, which includes swimming and snorkelling each day. There is no maximum age!
Courses start on sunday afternoons every week and last until the friday evening. If you have a week or longer in Greece for your holiday, you can start with the training and then continue on board the yacht to sail yourselves without the instructor from the saturday. If you have two weeks we will advise a route plan for you and meet you in the evenings if required (see our assisted sailing/informal flotilla) so you will always have support if you need it.
