RYA SEA SCHOOL: Sail Training and Other Courses

Sail Ionian is a family run RYA training centre offering expert tuition for all levels of experience. Our courses are taught by very experienced, professional and friendly instructors on new, well maintained and fully equipped yachts. We offer the full range of RYA courses for those new to sailing to more experienced sailors looking to further enhance their skills and knowledge on the water.

Own Boat Tuition

International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

The ICC is a certificate asked for in many European Countries in order to charter a yacht. In the UK, in order to obtain an ICC, your knowledge level should be similar to RYA Day Skipper. As well as being able to handle the yacht under sail and power we also expect good knowledge of Day Skipper navigation, collision regulations and tidal theory.

We can offer a minimum one day assessment for an ICC. The RYA Day Skipper Practical Certification enables you to apply straight for an ICC without having to do any further assessments.

Refresher RYA Courses/Training

Are you wanting to charter a yacht or take your next RYA qualification but not sure if you remember everything you think you should do?!

Our refresher courses are designed for anyone who would like to have a few days instruction/training during a holiday in Greece. We arrange one of our RYA Instructors to join your yacht for one, two or more days and to cover anything you feel you need to practice.

Further Night Sailing? Man Overboard Techniques? Mooring? Sail Trim? Day Skipper Navigation?

Price: Charged per day for instructor.

 

Ladies Only RYA Courses

For those of you who want to start sailing or learn more and gain confidence to take charge on a yacht. This is ideal for anyone for anyone who feels their partner is not the best person to learn with, for anyone who wants to learn without men taking charge, or for those women who just want to learn to sail during an informal week in the sunshine, not the cold.

We only take a maximum of four students and instructor. You will get the chance to have a go at everything and should feel confident to sail a yacht in our area as skipper at the end of your week sailing.

Price: £550/person (excludes travel)

 

Assisted Sailing

Our Assisted Sailing is for newly qualified Day Skippers, those of you who haven't sailed in awhile or for helping to get skipper and crew working together as a team. Especially helpful if you have crew on board who have never sailed before.

Have a skipper with you at the start of your holiday to build confidence to sail yourselves for the rest of the week (with our support where required). The aim of assisted sailing is to cover the basics and the important safety aspects for our area so you are comfortable entering/leaving harbours, anchoring in bays, sailing in light - moderate winds and enjoying your holiday.

Assisted sailing lets you have the practice at skippering/sailing your own yacht and building miles. It is a fantastic way to build confidence with the sailing/boat handling etc in a relatively easy sailing area without needing to join a flotilla. More Information

Sail Ionian's instructors will travel to your yacht in order to teach any of the RYA practical courses or for informal tuition and refresher training. We can tailor the informal training to whatever you would like to cover from stern too mooring to night sailing!
