Flights and Travel to Lefkas, Greece

The Sail Ionian base is in Vliho village on the island of Lefkas in Greece. Lefkas is linked by a causeway to the mainland and our base is about 30 minutes from Preveza Airport, 45 - 50 euros for 4 people sharing a taxi.

An air conditioned taxi or coach will be arranged to transfer you to our base and Kelly, one of our staff will meet you at the airport on arrival.

Flights to Preveza operate between May and October.

Flights run from MANCHESTER and GATWICK in the UK

Sail Ionian has flights available from Gatwick. Please email di@sailionian.com for a quote and availability. Our flights leave the UK at 8am sundays so that you can arrive in Greece and go sailing that same day!

An early departure from the UK is the best option to allow you to make the most of your time in Greece and sail on the day you arrive.

Sail Ionian:Island of Lefkas

Alternative Travel Options to Sail Ionian, Lefkas Island

Fly to Athens and then take a bus, taxi, or hire a car and drive to Lefkada. There is a new bridge now open and this journey time from Athens to Preveza is around 5 hours.

Fly to Corfu and then travel by ferry to the mainland (1.5 hrs) and then by car, taxi, or bus to Lefkas (roughly 2.5 hours).

Fly to Kefalonia and take a taxi (1 hr to Fiscardho, on northern Kefalonia. We can sometimes deliver the yacht to meet you or you can take the ferry (1.5 hrs) to Lefkada island, where we are based. Try 0030 26710 22700 or Taxi Kefalonia www.taxi-kefalonia.gr

Fly to Thessoloniki and take a taxi to our base (2 hours) or a bus to Preveza and change buses to Lefkas Island and then Vliho (our base).

Flying via Athens

Easyjet, British airways, Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airlines fly to Athens as do many other airlines. If there are three or four of you it is often cheaper to fly to Athens and then get a taxi to Lefkas (Journey time approx 4-5 hours). This has added advantages of flexibility and will also let you visit other parts of Greece and some of the historic sights if you haven’t done this before.

BA easyJetOlympic Airlines

There is a daily bus service from Athens (times change so check before travelling) and there is usually a bus (40 euros) which leaves around 16.30pm to Lefkas. Please note that you need an hour to travel between the Athens airport and bus station to be sure to not miss the bus! Sail Ionian can arrange a mini bus for around 600 euros or a taxi at around 350 euros to Vliho directly which is the best option for groups of four or more. A hire car can be taken one way and dropped on arrival in Lefkas or left at our base for the duration of your holiday.

Flying via Corfu

Fly into Corfu and you have a short 10 minute (10 euro) journey to the port area where you can catch one of the frequent ferries to Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland. From here you can get a taxi, bus or car to Lefkas. Journey time in a Taxi or car around 2 hours from Igoumenitsa to Lefkas Town. Lefkas Town to our base is around 30 euros in a taxi (25 mins).

Monarch, Thomas Cook, Thompson and Ryan Air (on weds), Easyjet, BA and JET2 Airlines all fly to Corfu from the UK.

Taxi Transfer from Igoumenitsa (approx): €110

Bus Transfer to Lefkada tues and friday and sunday (at time of writing)

 

Flying via Kefalonia

Fly into southern Kefalonia and take a taxi to Fiscardho on the northern tip of the island. From here daily ferries run to Vassiliki and Nidri on Lefkada island (both ports are very close to our base). This is a very scenic trip and gives you an good overview of the island.

Monarch, Thompson and Thomas Cook fly to Kefalonia.

Ferry Kefalonia to Lefkada island: Approx 10 euros/person

Flying via Thessaloniki

Daily flights are available with BA, Ryan Air and Easyjet. From there it is roughly 2 hours travel to our base. Taxi (390 euros) or Bus to Igoumenitza and then to Lefkas. Hire cars are also available to be dropped one way in Lefkas or to return to the airport after your sailing holiday.
