Easyjet, British airways, Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airlines fly to Athens as do many other airlines. We have found the easiest and often cheapest option is to hire a car from Athens and leave it our base whilst you sail, and then drive it back again. Alterantively you can take the bus or share a taxi (around a 4-5 hour journey to lefkas. This has the added advantages of flexibility and gives you the oppurtunity to see some of the historic sights of Greece- a particularly nice thing for first time visitors.
There is a daily bus service from Athens (times change so check before travelling) and there is usually a bus (40 euros) which leaves around 16.30pm to Lefkas. Please note that you need an hour to travel between the Athens airport and bus station to be sure to not miss the bus! Sail Ionian can arrange a mini bus for around 600 euros or a taxi at around 350 euros to Vliho directly which is the best option for groups of four or more. A hire car can be taken one way and dropped on arrival in Lefkas or left at our base for the duration of your holiday. For a step by step guide to the bus journey click here.
Fly into Corfu and you have a short 10 minute (10 euro) journey to the port area where you can catch one of the frequent ferries to Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland, alternatively car hire is easily booked and you can take the car on the ferry. Fly into southern Kefalonia and take a taxi to Fiscardho on the northern tip of the island. Travelling from Italy
There are no direct ferries from Italy to Lefkas. There are ferries from Ancona, Bari and Brindisi. These all go to Igomenitsa. The best and most affordable way to get to us from Italy is by car. You can drive onto the ferry and then take the drive from Igoumenitsa to us (About 2 1/2 hours). We are happy to arrange this for you or to do so yourself see www.hellasferries.org.
This year we will be organising car hire through local companies. More information coming soon.
