The Sail Ionian base is in Vliho village on the island of Lefkas. Lefkas is linked by a causeway to the mainland and our base is about 30 minutes from Preveza Airport, 40 euros for 4 people sharing a taxi. An air conditioned taxi will be arranged to meet you at the airport to transfer you to our base.

Direct flights to Preveza operate between May and October.

Winter Travel and other travel Options

Fly to Athens and then take a local flight to Preveza, or a bus, taxi, or hire a car and drive to Lefkada. There is a new bridge now open and this journey time from Athens to Preveza is around 4 hours.

Fly to Corfu and then travel by ferry to the mainland (1.5 hrs) and then by car, taxi, or bus to Lefkas (roughly 2.5 hours).

Fly to Kefalonia and take a taxi (1 hr, 60 euro) to Fiscardho, on northern Kefalonia. We can deliver the yacht to meet you or you can take the ferry (1.5 hrs) to Lefkada island, where we are based.

Early booking is imperative to avoid disappointment.

Easyjet, British airways, Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airlines fly to Athens. If there are three or four of you it is often cheaper to fly to Athens and then get a taxi to Lefkas (Journey time approx 4-5 hours). This has added advantages of flexibility and will also let you visit other parts of Greece and some of the historic sights if you haven’t done this before.

Connecting flights from Athens to Preveza are run by Olympic Airlines.

Olympic airlines (flights 3 times per week) current cost € 50 - € 60 per person each way.  Unfortunately Olympic doesn’t connect with all of the UK flights and certainly not in both directions, so an overnight in Athens may be necessary or take a taxi/bus one or both ways, and see some of Greece.

Taxi Transfers Athens - Sail Ionian Base

The simplest and our preferred method of transfer is by Taxi. The cost is €270 per car of four each way Athens - Preveza and transfer time around 4 hours. We arrange this transfer for you.

Hire Cars can be hired in Athens but you will need to keep them for the duration of your stay.

Local bus (twice a day) from Athens bus station to Lefkas Town (5 hours). The cost is €29 and then a taxi can be arranged to our base (20 mins drive).

Fly into Corfu and you have a short journey to the port area where you can catch one of the frequent ferries to Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland from here you can get a taxi, or car to Lefkas. It is also possible and very cheap to use a bus for the journey. Journey time in a Taxi or car around 2 hours from Igoumenitsa to Lefkas Town.

Aegean Airlines, British Airways, Easyjet and other airlines fly to Corfu from the UK.

Taxi Transfer from Igoumenitsa (approx): €110

Fly into southern Kefalonia and take a taxi to Fiscardho on the northern tip of the island. From here ferries run to Vassiliki and Nidri on Lefkada island (both ports are very close to our base).

Monarch, Thompson and flythomascook fly to Kefalonia.

Taxi Transfer from Airport to Fiscardho: Approx 60 euros/taxi

Ferry Kefalonia to Lefkada island: Approx 6 euros/person
