Azure 2027: The Next Generation of Hybrid Yacht Comfort

More cooling, more usable energy and more choice — with less compromise.

For 2027, Azure, our Bavaria C50, is receiving a major upgrade to her already advanced lithium-powered energy and air-conditioning system. The result will be a genuine hybrid power system that combines lithium batteries, solar energy, high-output engine charging and generator support.

Each power source has its strengths, but the aim is refreshingly simple: to make Azure cooler and more comfortable while preserving the peace and freedom of an Ionian sailing holiday.

Silent air conditioning at anchor

The heart of Azure remains her enormous 1,600 Ah lithium battery bank. It allows the air conditioning to operate without requiring the generator to run continuously.

At anchor in a quiet bay, you can switch the generator off and continue cooling the cabins from the batteries: no continuous generator hum and no need to choose between a comfortable night and the atmosphere of a peaceful anchorage.

Generator off. Batteries on. Air conditioning running. Enjoy the silence.

You are not tied to one routine. You can enjoy silent battery-powered cooling overnight and recharge the following morning, or use generator support when maximum cooling and faster battery recovery matter more. That flexibility is the point of Azure’s 2027 system.

45,000 BTU of new-generation cooling

One of the biggest changes for 2027 is an entirely new generation of Blue-Airco air conditioning. Azure will have three 15,000 BTU variable-output 12V units, providing a combined 45,000 BTU of cooling.

That is a 25% increase in cooling capacity over the previous system. It should cool the yacht faster during hot Ionian afternoons and provide greater comfort overnight.

Cooling performance is about more than a headline number. Each air conditioner will have its own dedicated seawater pump and supply, so the three units operate as genuinely independent systems. Larger ducting and vents in the aft cabins will also help the extra cooling reach where it matters.

Hybrid power means choice

The new Fischer Panda 8000i variable-speed generator complements the lithium system rather than replacing it. It can support the air conditioning while putting substantial energy back into the battery bank, giving you several practical ways to use Azure:

• Quiet night at anchor: run the air conditioning from the lithium batteries with the generator off.
• Maximum cooling: use generator support during periods of high demand while continuing to charge.
• Recharge later: recover energy through solar, engine charging, generator power or suitable shore power.
• Mix the sources: the engine charging system and generator can work together when rapid battery recovery is useful.

Arrive at an evening anchorage with the batteries around 50%, for example, and you can keep the yacht air conditioned while the generator replenishes the bank. As the variable-output units bring the cabins to temperature and begin backing off, more charging capacity becomes available.

Designed for the way you sail the Ionian

This is not technology for technology’s sake. It is designed around how Azure is actually used.

• A peaceful night in Meganisi may call for completely silent battery operation.
• A scorching August afternoon may call for maximum cooling with generator support.
• Motoring to the next island naturally puts energy back into the batteries.
• A sunny day contributes solar energy quietly and automatically.
• At Kioni, Fiskardo or another town quay, the skipper can adapt the charging load to the shore power available.

For those who would like the detail, Azure’s planned 2027 hybrid comfort system brings together the following equipment and capabilities.

Air conditioning

• Three Blue-Airco 15,000 BTU variable-output 12V air-conditioning units.
• 45,000 BTU combined cooling capacity — 25% more than the previous system.
• Three independent seawater cooling systems, each with its own pump and seawater supply.
• Upgraded aft-cabin ducting and vents for improved air distribution.

Energy storage and charging

• 1,600 Ah lithium battery capacity.
• Fischer Panda 8000i variable-speed generator.
• Approximately 250 A of generator- or shore-powered charging through five individually selectable 50 A chargers.
• Selectable charging levels of approximately 50 A, 100 A, 150 A, 200 A or 250 A to suit the available supply.
• High-output engine charging and solar charging.

How the system works under load

The generator-supported charging system is designed to approximately maintain — and potentially continue increasing — battery state of charge even when all three air conditioners are operating at maximum output alongside refrigeration and normal background loads. Once the cabins reach temperature and cooling demand falls, more charging capacity becomes available.

When the generator is operating, it also supplies Azure’s existing 230V system. Fans, sockets, coffee machines and other onboard appliances can therefore run directly from generator power rather than placing an additional load on the batteries.
