How to get to Zakynthos

Not sure on how to get to Zakynthos? Read our useful article to see which option suits you best!

With many of our guests choosing to add on a couple of days after their sailing holiday, the question of “How do I get to Zakynthos?” seems to arise quite often at the moment. So I’ve put together this guide which should save you hours of researching/procrastinating/fretting. Zakynthos, AKA Zante, located just to the South of Kefalonia is within easy reaching distance whether you are heading there to a villa, or if you are simply passing through to the airport.

Option 1:

Taxi Vliho to Nidri – 5€

Take the 2 hour journey on the Captain Aristides ferry from our nearest town of Nidri to Fiscardo on Kefalonia – the timetable will eventually be published online here but not until next Spring I expect… you can get an idea of the 2019 timetable anyway. Tickets 8.50€ per adult, pay on the day – no prebooking necessary for foot passengers.

Arrive in the beautiful harbour of Fiscardo – cue the captain sounding his horn at the numerous yachts in his way as he charges through the entrance of the bay. If you have time, I’d highly recommend spending some time to explore ashore here. Several amazing ice cream parlours, cocktail bars, boutique shops and of course the main reason I head to Fiscardo, awesome Thai Restaurant called The Lord Falcon! 😛 If you haven’t been, go.

Anyway, take a taxi from Fiscardo to Pessada at the SW of the island. Book online with Kefalonia Taxi. The journey takes a little over an hour and costs 100€ for a taxi up to 4 people. As far as I know, there is no bus from Fiscardo to Pessada, though you could head south on the bus (see timetable) towards the airport can take a shorter taxi from there.

Take the Ionion Pelagos ferry from Pessada on Kefalonia to Agios Nikolaos on Zakynthos. Again the timetable for 2020 has not been released yet but see this year’s timetable online here. Tickets cost 9€ pp and the journey takes under 2 hours.

Option 2:

Taxi from Vliho to Lefkas Town – 25€

Take the Azimut Island Hopper. Starting in Corfu, this hydrofoil stops off in Paxos before picking up in Lefkas Town, heading to Spilia on Meganisi, Pissaetos on Ithaca, Sami on Kefalonia and finally Zakynthos. The pick up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays is 11:50 from Lefkas Town Quay with an estimated arrival time of 15:05 in Zakynthos. So by the time you’ve arrived half an hour before departure, you are looking at a 4 hour ferry ride – a pleasant scenic ferry ride nonetheless.

The 2020 timetable is yet to be released but this service ran from April-September in 2019 – FYI here is the 2019 timetable … tickets from Lefkada Town to Zakynthos are 35€ pp.

Option 3:

Taxi from Vliho to Preveza Airport – 50€

Sky Express fly from Preveza to Zakynthos (with a 20 minute stop in Kefalonia to pick up/drop off) throughout the season on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Tickets are approximately 80€ pp one way but obviously depends on the date. Check out the timetable online here. Total flight time approximately 1.5 hours.
