Suggested Route – Exploring the Northern Ionian

Follow our suggested 10 day itinerary to discover the gems of the Northern Ionian

Sunday night – Lefkas Town, Lefkada

Take the short trip up to Lefkas Town when you arrive to be in a great location to catch an early bridge on the Monday morning. Reserve a space in Lefkas Marina or take your chances with the town quay – note it can be very busy June to September as a lot of the charter companies don’t leave the quay until the Monday morning.

Monday night – Parga, Mainland

Tucked under a castle, Parga is one of the most attractive places along this coast of the mainland. Freeswing to the west of the bay near the beach for a protected overnight stay. Hitch a lift in a water taxi to the village for a delicious meal up on the hill.

Tuesday night – Gaios, Paxos

A cmpletely hidden harbour, Gaios is a unique stopover on the beautiful island of Paxos. Although it can get busy in the narrow channel, it’s a must see if you are find yourselves in the Northern Ionian. Take a pleasant walk through the town and olive groves for something a bit different.

Wednesday night – Sivota Mourtos, Mainland

Enter Sivota Mourtos from the North or stay south of the nearby islands – don’t cross the 2m bar, it’s not the kind of bar you want to end up in! Sivota Mourtos is an enchanting bay but beware of the crowds in peak season.

Thursday night – Corfu Town, Corfu

The magical old town of Corfu with winding cobbled streets is the perfect place to wander round and admire the Italian style architecture. Choose from Gouvia Marina, Port Mandraki or anchor off the fort.

Friday night – Lakka, Paxos

Lakka is a picturesque bay surrounded by greenery. The bay is a collage of blue and greens with depths of around 4m – ideal for freeswinging overnight. Take a trip to the west side of the island to discover secret caves.

Saturday night – Preveza Town, Mainland

Moor up stern to on the town quay or book Preveza Marina for a guaranteed space. You can also anchor off north of the marina. Ashore, there are a plethora of cafes, bar and restuarants to sit and watch the world go by. This is certainly more of a Greek town than a tourist town!

Sunday night – Vonitsa, Mainland

Off the beaten track, Vonitsa avoids the crowds of the summer making it an ideal stopover while up north.

Monday night – Varko Bay, Mainland

Spend a night at anchor in Varko Bay, or Goat Bay as we know it. Beautifully crystal clear water, the sound of the goats on the hill and that’s about it! A nice chilled out anchorage with good holding in shallow water. Avoid anchoring directly off the beach – stick to the outer edges of the bay.

Tuesday night – Geni, Lefkada

A 10 minute motor back to base, Geni is an easy last night destination. Shallow water and excellent holding make going ashore in the dinghy a pleasant experience. Try Elena’s for traditional Greek food right on the waterfront.
