New yachts are supplied for owners joining the Sail Ionian Yacht Partnership, combining personal yacht ownership with charter income and professional yacht management from our base in Lefkas.

Our new yachts are not supplied as basic, minimum-specification charter boats. We work with owners to create a yacht that is enjoyable for their own sailing while also being properly equipped for operation in the Ionian.
Depending on the model, specifications can include upgraded navigation equipment, lithium batteries, solar panels, air-conditioning, teak, improved anchoring equipment, tenders, electric outboards and other comfort and cruising equipment.

The yachts shown above fall into two categories.
Our new yachts are selected specifically for operation within the Sail Ionian Yacht Partnership. We assist with specification, ordering, commissioning, registration, commercial requirements and preparation for operation in Greece.
We periodically offer a limited number of pre-owned yachts as they retire from the Sail Ionian fleet.
Unlike an unknown brokerage yacht, these boats have been under our management and have known operational and maintenance histories. Availability is limited and changes as yachts reach the end of their planned fleet life.
A yacht operated commercially needs an exceptionally strong maintenance programme. Our objective is not simply to keep each yacht operational, but to maintain its condition, presentation and long-term value.
Regular engineering inspections are combined with comprehensive winter servicing, cleaning and preventative maintenance. This approach has also helped yachts leaving the Sail Ionian fleet achieve strong resale results.

You own the yacht and enjoy agreed periods of personal use, while Sail Ionian operates and professionally manages the yacht from our base in Lefkas. During the remaining charter season the yacht generates charter income. [Learn more about Yacht Partnership]
We assist with yacht selection and specification, ordering, commissioning, registration and preparation for commercial operation in Greece. Additional equipment required for operation in the Ionian can also be specified and installed.
Yes, on most models. We work with owners to create a specification suitable for both personal use and successful charter operation in Greece. Some special editions, such as the Bavaria Voyager range, have a more fixed specification with additional equipment already included.
Yes, the pre-owned yachts offered here are generally yachts retiring from our managed fleet. This means we know their operational and maintenance history and they have been maintained through the Sail Ionian Complete Care programme.
Yes. Professional yacht management is fundamental to the Sail Ionian Yacht Partnership. Our Lefkas-based team manages charter operations, engineering, maintenance, cleaning, winter preparation and owner support. [Read about Yacht Maintenance & Complete Care]
Yachts purchased for commercial operation within the Sail Ionian Yacht Partnership are acquired through the yacht-owning company for commercial charter use in Greece. Depending on the purchase structure, VAT on the yacht is either not charged at purchase or is reclaimed by the yacht-owning company.
The precise VAT treatment depends on the yacht, transaction and circumstances of the owner, so we will explain the applicable structure before purchase.
At the end of the Partnership, you can choose to retain the yacht for your own private use. The yacht is then transferred from the yacht-owning company to you personally.
If the yacht is to remain in the EU for private use, EU VAT will normally become payable on the transfer to private ownership.
For a non-EU resident, such as a UK resident, there may be an alternative. The yacht may be exported from the EU and subsequently brought back into EU waters under Temporary Admission, allowing qualifying non-EU residents to use the yacht privately in the EU for a limited period without paying EU import VAT. In Greece this is commonly administered through a Transit Log.
The precise rules depend on the owner's residency, the yacht's ownership and how and where the yacht will be used, so please ask us about the options applicable to your circumstances.
