Nydri Marina Construction Work Has Started 

Plans for a €2.4m redevelopment of Nydri seafront have started with construction work beginning on a marina breakwater.  

The new marina will provide berths for 73 yachts up to 15m in length. It will, according to the developer, compose of:

“a) Marine works: windward breakwater 155m long (consisted of a vertical quaywall section and a floating breakwater). Floating pontoons of a total length of 72m, quay walls of a total length of 60m, moorings, dredging. 

b) Land area works: building infrastructure including administration office, café, amenities, parking area, entrance guard post, trees, electromechanical installations.” 

The new Nydri Marina construction is positioned at the northern end of the current promenade, outside the tavernas Roots and The Barrel. 

Currently the mooring area in Nydri is very exposed both to easterly winds, as well as swell from passing boats, the breakwater will greatly reduce this. The main road running through the centre of Nydri (parallel to the seafront) has recently been redeveloped too. Combined with several up-market restaurants and better shopping the town is becoming a destination in its own right. It also provides many valuable marine servicing facilities to boat owners.

However, it remains to be seen how the council will deal with the day trip boats in the future. Past decisions to move them to the harbour in Perigiali have failed to be enforced, and they remain moored along the Nydri seafront all summer.
