Exciting Quay Café Refurbishments Things don't get better by CHANCE, but by CHANGE At Sail Ionian we always have our clients best interest at heart. Our aim is to offer the best service going & to make everyone’s stay as enjoyable as possible. Although the majority of our guests enjoy 7 nights sailing away from base, and therefore spend very little time actually here at our base, the Quay Café is a very important service that we provide, particularly on a turnaround day. Many of our guests will have, at some point visit the Quay Café. This is conveniently located opposite the yacht quay. It’s the ideal place to refresh yourself on arrival with a beer and a light bite while your yacht awaits you, and we generally like to do our route planning with you at this time, in shade and comfort. Equally it’s perfect to reminisce and share stories with other guests over a coffee and breakfast before departure. Improvements, Renovations and Greater Choice Our café is having a little face lift this year and along with a new license, we will be able to offer a wider variation of food. Work will commence next month ready for the start of the season on the 18th April. Once work gets going, I'll be sure to post some pictures of what's happening! We will be expanding & upgrading the kitchen, so our chef & kitchen staff can produce our new exciting menu. We will be looking at creating tasty Greek mezes, fresh seasonal salads, pasta dishes, fresh pizza all handmade here, homemade burgers, omelettes, full breakfasts, lots of delicious veggies & not forgetting desserts all made in house with fresh, local ingredients. Our little neighbourhood will enjoy the amazing aromas coming from our kitchen – and we certainly can’t wait to try the new menu! We will continue to serve coffees, soft drinks, smoothies with fresh fruit & of course wine, beer & cocktails. Our Blue Planet and Plastic Waste For our takeaway service we are looking into alternative packaging & straws to move away from using plastic. With the recent news reports showing that the amount of the plastic in the ocean could TRIPLE by the year 2025, it is without a doubt, time for change. Rethinking the use of single-use plastics is a good start – plastic straws, plastic bags, plastic bottles… Plastic bottles are a huge issue here in the Ionian and across Greece. With most people choosing to buy bottled water rather than drink the tap water which is not generally recommendced, the amount of plastic bottle waste is horrendous. And we do see bottles and other rubbish whilst we are out sailing so here’s a statistic that will shock you - one study estimated that there are more than 5 TRILLION (yes trillion) plastic pieces afloat at sea. Plastic pollution is not only impacting our waters and marine life, but also the human food chain and our overall health, every little move away from plastic helps. It is time for global change but the small changes that we make in the Quay Café and in other areas of Sail Ionian all helps. I'd also recommend looking at the site Plastic Free Greece - it gives some good ideas of really small changes to make that will have a big impact on keeping Greece beautiful. We hope to see you in the Quay Café this summer - nothing brings people together like good food! This post was written by admin
